When you are planning a party, knowing where to start can be a bit daunting. Our guide will give you hints, tips and the inspiration to create an unforgettable experience

Choose a theme

  • What does the birthday boy/girl like best
  • Are they a party princess, a superhero or is there a particular activity they love?
  • You can keep it simple but effective with a colour theme

Decide on a budget

  • Don’t overspend! You can create a magical party without spending a fortune
  • Work out numbers
  • When you know what your budget is, you can work out how many people to invite
  • Is it going to be a large party where the whole class is invited or will it be a more personal celebration with a few of their favourite people?

Invitations

  • Aim to send out invitations 4-6 weeks in advance to give people plenty of notice
  • Include all the basic info – name of the party person, venue address, date of the party, start and end time (no more than 2-3 hours), an RSVP deadline, your contact details and allergy or dietary requirements

Venue

  • Ask for recommendations from friends and family and check out reviews
  • Check if the venue supplies food and if they can accommodate your chosen theme
  • Choose an appropriate venue for your group size
  • Is it accessible for everyone invited?

Food

  • Some venues do great party food options so check out any options available
  • If you want a more budget friendly option then self catering maybe the way to go
  • Buffets are always a popular option or you could do individual lunch boxes or bags for the party guests
